Hermetic Doors

Hermetic Doors

The Standard for Hygiene, Insulation and Safety

A hermetic door is a highly sealed mechanical door system that, when closed, almost completely prevents the passage of air, liquid, sound and particles. Named after the term “hermetic”, meaning airtight, these doors are an indispensable part of special areas that require controlled pressure, sterilisation and microorganism control.

Basic Operating Principle and Sealing Mechanism

The key feature that distinguishes hermetic doors from standard sliding or hinged doors is their two-directional movement at the moment of closing:

  • Multi-Axis Closing Movement: When the door leaf moves along the track and reaches the closing point, it is simultaneously pressed towards the wall and lowered towards the floor.
  • Special Seal Structure: Highly flexible EPDM or silicone seals are located on all four sides of the door (or in the leaf profile). The downward and inward movement of the leaf ensures that these seals sit perfectly between the frame and the floor, reducing air leakage to zero.
  • Pressure Differential Balance: It makes it possible to maintain the targeted positive or negative air pressure in environments such as clean rooms or operating theatres.

Areas of Use

  • Healthcare: Operating theatres, intensive care units, quarantine rooms and isolation wards.
  • Pharmaceutical and Chemical Industry: Pharmaceutical production laboratories, formulation rooms and biosafety laboratories (BSL-2, BSL-3, etc.).
  • Food and Beverage Production: Packaging and filling areas where the entry of bacteria and particles must be strictly prevented.
  • High Technology and Cleanrooms: Semiconductor and microchip production and aerospace optical assembly workshops.
  • Radiology and Nuclear Medicine: X-ray and CT rooms where radiation shielding is provided by integrating lead sheets into the leaf when required.
